Second of “the big three,” John chapter 6 records Jesus’s deep theological discourse on the will of God, the (in)ability of man, and the nature of saving faith. Careful study of the passage, and yielding our hearts to it, leaves us without question about the full sovereignty of God in redemption, and our utter need for His grace.

The last in our study of “the big three,” Ephesians chapter 1 is one of the most beautiful passages in all of Scripture—it’s also the most clear expression of God’s electing sovereignty. In Ephesians chapter 1, Paul walks us through God’s sovereign choice of His people, in Christ, to their redemption, for His own glory. Understanding this passage informs us how to more accurately praise God for His gracious gift of salvation.

Romans chapter 9 is one of the most challenging passages in all of Scripture—and it’s entirely straightforward. Romans 9 has been the battleground of tense theological debate for centuries, specifically surrounding the concept of God’s sovereignty in election, predestination, and “Calvinistic soteriology.” However, the passage is not nearly as hard to interpret as some have made it out to be… the only question is, can we receive it for what it is?

The book of Hebrews is, sadly, unknown to lots of Christians. However, its clear and powerful presentation of The Gospel ought to inspire the greatest confidence in the life of all believers. Hebrews 10 reminds us to look towards Christ as the perfect guarantor of our salvation, having perfected us “once for all” through His sacrifice on the cross.
